What I do

I’ve been mixing professionally since 1985: front of house on the road, in the studio as a recording engineer and record producer, and live to air for broadcast. Based in the UK and the US, I work worldwide. Credits include Moby, New Order, Run The Jewels, Robyn and Röyksopp. See my work.

International touring and concert sound

Front of house for world tours, festival runs and one-off shows. I advance every date with the venue and the production, build the mix in rehearsals, and deliver the same show night after night, from clubs to arenas to festival main stages. I mix on the Avid S6L and work hand in hand with suppliers such as Clair Global, so the system is right before doors open.

Studio recording and album mixing

Recording, mixing and mastering (stereo or Dolby Atmos) for singles, EPs and albums, in person in Manchester or Los Angeles, or remotely from your stems. I learned the craft at Strawberry Studios under Martin Hannett, and I still mix as if a record is being made: every part in its place, every song with a point of view.

Stereo and 5.1 broadcast mixing for live performances

When a show goes out to the world, the mix has to be right first time. I mix live performances for television, radio, streaming and live albums, in stereo, 5.1 surround or Dolby Atmos: live to air on the night, or recorded multitrack and mixed afterwards for release. Releases I’ve worked on include Moby’s live albums Almost Home and Hotel.

Sound system setup, tuning and alignment

A great mix starts with a PA that tells the truth. I design, set up, time-align and tune systems for the room, so the band walks out to a rig that already sounds right. Tours, festivals, venues and installations, from a single show to a full run.

Audio production for major artists and independent acts

Pre-production, production rehearsals and getting a show ready for the road, for headliners and independent acts alike. You get the same care either way: honest advice, a clear plan, and a mix that serves the song rather than the gear.
